COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This comprehensive Pregnancy Yoga Teacher Training equips teachers with the tools and knowledge to support pregnant students and offer Pregnancy Yoga classes. The course will also cover the Postnatal period and offer tools to run Mother and Baby Yoga Classes.
Having a baby is a life changing experience and yoga can provide a nurturing and supportive environment for people to connect with their baby, move their body and adapt to the fluctuations of energy and mood and the physical changes that occur during and after pregnancy.
THE COURSE WILL COVER:
Overview
A general overview of the physical and psychological changes that can occur in pregnancy and how yoga can support this stage of life. Knowing when to suggest that the student consult a health care professional regarding pregnancy issues. Understanding of psychological considerations during pregnancy and how to differentiate between high-risk and non-high-risk pregnancy.
Asana
Adapting asana to support the pregnant body throughout each trimester for beginners and advanced practitioners. Understanding which asanas to avoid and at which stage of pregnancy. Positions to prepare for birth and to use in labour. Asana to support common pregnancy ailments such as pelvic girdle pain.
Pranayama
Learning which pranayama are beneficial during pregnancy and birth and which are contraindicated.
Meditation and relaxation techniques
Learn valuable tools to support the pregnant student with relaxation techniques and learn the physiological benefits of relaxation in pregnancy and birth.
Mudras
Exploring Hasta mudras and moving mudras.
Anatomy and Physiology
Understanding the changes that occur during pregnancy, birth and the fourth trimester.
Philosophy
Exploring Yogic philosophies from the unique perspective of pregnancy and birth and motherhood.
Matrescence
Exploring the emotional, psychological, spiritual and physical process of becoming a mother.
Teaching methodology and sequencing
Learn how to teach pregnancy yoga classes and incorporate pregnant students into regular classes. Sequencing for pregnancy yoga classes and sequencing for pregnancy specific ailments.
Use of Props
Teaching Practice
There will be plenty of opportunities to put the tools we have learnt into practice and feel confident enough to teach a full pregnancy yoga class by the end of the course.
Postnatal
The end of the course will cover adapting what we have learnt for the postnatal body, Baby yoga movements and incorporating babies into a Mother and baby class.
ASSESSMENT
– Attend 100% of the course
– Complete the 60 minute teaching practice of a pregnancy yoga class
– Complete 2 pregnancy yoga class observations
– Complete 2 Mother and Baby class observations
– Complete a short reflective essay
EQUIPMENT REQUIRED
– A cushion to make a baby bump
– A demonstration doll/teddy for the Mother and Baby portion of the course
– Yoga For Pregnancy and Birth book by Uma Dinsmore-Tuli
